A pre-emergent is a herbicide that causes plants to die as they germinate. Corn Gluten is the only kind of pre-emergent herbicide that can be used with any vegetable. Other pre- emergents can be used on certain kinds of vegetables but not others. They are designed to kill a kind of plant. If the pre-emergent does not specifically list the kind of plant you want to use it with it will kill it.
